Passports (Amendment) Rules, 2026 : Passport Fees Hiked w.e.f 1st July 2026
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has issued the Passports (Amendment) Rules, 2026 through Notification G.S.R. 516(E) dated 20 June 2026. These amended rules will come into effect from 1 July 2026 and revise Schedule IV of the Passports Rules, 1980, which specifies the fees for passport-related services.

Key Changes
1. Adult Passport Fees (18 years and above)
- 36-page Passport
- Normal: ₹2,500
- Tatkaal: ₹5,000
- 60-page Passport
- Normal: ₹3,500
- Tatkaal: ₹6,000
2. Replacement of Lost or Damaged Passport (Adults)
- 36-page Passport
- Normal: ₹5,000
- Tatkaal: ₹7,500
- 60-page Passport
- Normal: ₹6,000
- Tatkaal: ₹8,500
3. Minor Passport Fees (Below 18 Years)
- 36-page Passport
- Normal: ₹1,750
- Tatkaal: ₹4,250
- Replacement of Lost/Damaged Passport
- Normal: ₹4,250
- Tatkaal: ₹6,750
4. Special Travel Documents
- Emergency Certificate: USD 15 (Abroad)
- Certificate of Identity: ₹1,000 (India) / USD 50 (Abroad)
5. Miscellaneous Passport Services
The fee for services such as:
- Police Clearance Certificate (PCC)
- Surrender Certificate
- Global Entry Program Verification
- Other passport-based miscellaneous certificates
is ₹750 in India or USD 40 abroad.
Passport Validity
- Adult passports remain valid for up to 10 years.
- Passports issued to minors are valid for 5 years or until the applicant turns 18 years of age, whichever is earlier.
Effective Date
All the revised passport fees mentioned in the notification are effective from 1 July 2026.
